Monsters Guide

Check the target name and its in-game Notes entry when an objective requires a particular enemy or method. The suggestions below cover recognition, cover, and retreat. Follow the separate Flowermen and Distorted guides for more detail on those enemies.

At a glance

  • Keep the in-game Notes entry for the exact target open when an Investigation requires a specific enemy or method.
  • Fight in an area you have already checked, with a clear route back. Retreating into unexplored ground can bring you into another group of enemies.
  • Current variants can change behavior, so identify the variant before relying on a familiar pattern.

Monster and anomaly responses

Turned Soldier
Use cover and avoid exchanging fire in the openThey use firearms and can reposition or flee. Do not treat them as stationary targets.
Flowerman
Scan the vegetation before firingLook for more dormant bodies, roots, lure-bushes, and an Alpha before committing.
Distorted
Keep open ground behind youIts short teleports punish backing into clutter or another pack.
Swarm
Move inside or under coverShoot the hive only when the route or objective requires removal.
Invisible
Hold a clear close-range laneAvoid dense vegetation and wait for a readable reveal before firing.
Gravity anomaly
Read the distortion and exit surfaceDo not enter until you know where changed gravity will place you.

Use the same process for an unknown threat

  1. Stop outside the trigger area and separate visual movement from ambient effects.
  2. Identify hard cover, open retreat ground, and any nearby second threat.
  3. Check the target name or Notes entry if the situation allows it.
  4. Test the lowest-risk response: bypass, move under cover, or create distance.
  5. Commit ammunition only when the threat blocks the objective or retreat.

Fix these monster-fight errors

You retreat into another group.Fight from the edge of cleared ground and reverse along the route you already know.

You empty a magazine into the wrong target state.Pause long enough to identify the variant, reveal, or vulnerable interaction.

You complete the kill and lose the raid.Reload, heal, scan for attracted threats, then collect only objective or high-priority loot.
